Box Score NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis earned its first dual win of the spring on Friday, 4-0 over host Seton Hall. The Stags were led by singles wins from
Anna Neyestani,
Nicolette Loeffler and
Lily Malinowski.
"We set the tone with a gritty doubles point and carried that into singles," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "I'm happy for the team to get their first win of the spring. They've worked hard every day and have been close, so it's great to see them get enjoy the win."
After Seton Hall earned a win at #2 doubles, the action at both #1 and #3 went to a tiebreak. First,
Victoria Mandma and
Maeve Cassidy finished off a 7-6 (3) win at the top flight to even the doubles tally at 1-1. Fairfield claimed the doubles point on the #3 doubles court, with Neyestani and Malinowski winning by a 7-6 (4) count.
The momentum from the 1-0 lead carried into the singles courts. Neyestani won her match at #2 singles in straight sets – 6-2, 6-3 – with Loeffler adding a 6-4, 6-0 win at #3.
The clinching point came from the #5 singles court, where Malinowski won another tiebreaker – 6-4, 7-6 (4) – to finish the 4-0 victory.
Due to the 7 p.m. start time, the match was only played to a clinch. Mandma at #1 singles,
Maria Gell at #5 and Cassidy at #6 all saw their matches go unfinished in the third set after the Stags locked up the victory.
The Stags are back in action next Saturday, Feb. 22 for an 11 a.m. clash with Bryant. The match will be played indoors at Magic Lincer in Manchester.
