Stags Host Sacred Heart in MAAC Championship Semifinals

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will host crosstown rivals Sacred Heart in the MAAC Championship Semifinals on Thursday night at 6pm on Lessing Field. With a win, the Stags will advance to the MAAC Championship match and play for a chance to raise the trophy for the second-straight season.

Fairfield enters this match on a seven-game winning streak which has raised them to the No. 22 national ranking on the Top Drawer Soccer Top-25 poll. The Stags went unbeaten in the conference during the regular season, becoming just the fourth Fairfield team – and first since 2002 – to accomplish that feat. In total, the Stags hold an 18-match unbeaten streak against MAAC competition.

The Stags have also posted a 15-1-2 overall record, marking the third-highest winning percentage in the country and the second-most victories in Division I. Fairfield has been one of the most successful programs in the last two years, with a 33-4-3 mark and an .863 winning percentage, representing the highest in the nation.

On their home field, the Stags have been even more dominant with a 25-match unbeaten streak on Lessing Field which is tied for the third-longest active streak in the nation (Memphis – 39 and Utah State - 27). That streak spans over two full calendar years with their last home loss coming to Canisius on October 7, 2023.

With all that success, the Stags were well-represented on the MAAC Postseason awards list with a program-record 10 All-MAAC selections and four major awards.

Maddy Theriault became the first Stag ever to receive four All-MAAC First Team honors and the third to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards.

Meghan Carragher became the sixth Stag to receive the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honor while Katie Wright received the MAAC Golden Glove award. Wright becomes the eighth Fairfield goalkeeper to be recognized for a major award and the first since Fairfield Hall of Famer Kelly Boudreau in 2011.

Head Coach David Barrett became the first coach in program history to earn three MAAC Coach of the Year honors. Including his career at Illinois Wesleyan, Barrett has now earned eight conference coach of the year awards.

With a win over the Pioneers, the Stags will advance to the MAAC Championship Final for the third time in the last four years and the 14th time in program history. Fairfield clinched their second-straight MAAC Regular Season Championship and their 10th as a program.
