FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's soccer team will close out the regular-season portion of its 2025 schedule by taking the trip cross town for a Wednesday night match against Sacred Heart University. Both the Stags and the Pioneers have already clinched a spot in the upcoming Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship which begins with first-round games on Sunday, November 9.
The Stags have won their last three games by shutout which also extended their unbeaten streak to seven matches. Fairfield started the current run with a 5-1 win over Marist University before entering a stretch of three consecutive 1-1 draws against Iona University, Rider University, and Merrimack College. Then, the team reeled off victories against Manhattan University, Mount St. Mary's University, and Quinnipiac University.
Fairfield has shown a balanced attack over the seven-game unbeaten streak as nine different student-athletes have scored a goal during the stretch. At the top of the scoring leaderboard stands
Cameron Gerber, who has tallied two goals and two assists for six points over the last seven games with
Pipeloore Olanrewaju (two goals and an assist) and
William Pierce (one goal, three assists) placing a very close second with five points.
The Stags have split the seven games between two goalkeepers with both holding a clean sheet.
Viktor Nikolov played three of the games and posted a 0.33 goals against average with two shutouts and eight saves.
Evan Chomow recorded 24 saves in his four outings along with a 0.77 goals against average. Both keepers sport a .889 save percentage in those starts.
Overall, Gerber is the team's top scorer with 11 points, posting two goals and seven assists. His assist mark leads the MAAC in both number and in average (0.467 assists per game).
Sean Albritton and
Alex Vaz are the team's other two double digit scorers with 10 points, both scoring five goals to date. In goal, Chomow has the most minutes which has led to his 1.09 goals against average and .819 save percentage off 59 stops. His save percentage places him 19
th in the nation.
Sacred Heart enters Wednesday's match as the lone remaining unbeaten team in MAAC play, sporting a 7-0-2 record and an 8-3-4 overall mark. The Pioneers have a nine-game unbeaten streak which all comes from MAAC opponents, last falling by a 2-1 score to St. John's University on September 14.
David Garcia Gallego paces the Pioneers offense with four goals and a team-best four assists for 12 points. Ivan Morcillo leads the team with five goals, checking into the match with 11 points overall. Luca Marinelli has started 13 matches in goal, registering a 0.70 goals against average with a .816 save percentage (40 saves).
