Swimming & Diving Return To Action At Terrier Invitational

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After a three-week hiatus, the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in the pool this weekend. The Stags will head north for their annual trek to the Terrier Invitational, a multi-day event hosted by Boston University.

This year's event will feature the men's and women's teams from Boston College, Bryant University, UMass, and Fairfield University. The Northeastern University women's team will also compete as will the diving teams from Army West Point and Colgate University.

In last year's Terrier Invitational, the Fairfield men's team took third place overall while the women's program posted a fifth-place finish. The Stags have competed at the Terrier Invitational every year since the 2021-22 campaign.

In their last outing, the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a dual meet with Fordham University. The men's team edged out the Rams while the women's squad came up short against the host team.

Four Fairfield swimmers garnered a pair of first-place swims during the Fordham meet. Balazs Ament won both of breaststroke events, posting the winning time in the 100 (56.94) and the 200 (2:04.17). Andrew Nathe picked up two wins in the freestyle, touching the wall first in the 50 (21.23) and the 100 (46.47) sprints.

On the women's side, Tone Sandsjo and Natasha De Pree brought home a pair of victories. Sandsjo earned gold in both breaststroke races, recording a time of 1:04.01 in the 100 and 2:23.63 in the 200 swims. De Pree garnered first-place finishes in the freestyle, competing in the 200 (1:53.58) and the 500 (5:02.15).

The Terrier Invitational will open competition on Friday, November 21 with seven events on the docket that day. The 200 free relay, the 500 free, the 200 IM, the 50 free, the women's 1-meter dive, the men's 3-meter dive, and the 400 medley relay will be held with the preliminaries beginning at 10 am and the finals starting at 6 pm.

Following the Terrier Invitational, the Stags will break from competition for the semester. The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will return to the water on January 10 with a tri-meet against host Colgate University and Boston University. One week later, the Stags will host their final home event of the season, welcoming Iona University on January 17.
