BOSTON, Mass. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs completed their first day of competition at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University. Freshman
Natasha De Pree highlighted the evening session by winning the 500 yard free, completing the distance in 4:50.45.
Sofia Smerechniak also scored for the Stags with her sixth-place finish in the event (5:00.11).
De Pree's win was the first individual event final of the evening, coming after the 200 free relay. Rylee Bauman,
Ayva Christie, De Pree, and
Allie Bashor combined for an eighth-place finish by clocking in at 1:36.31 for the top finishing Fairfield foursome. For the men, the foursome of Cormac Rouse, Max McMillan, Tim Regan, and Oliver McLaughlin recorded the fourth-best time in the event in 1:22.32.
Aidan Schnapf and Tim Regan pulled out some points in the 500 free for the men's team, garnering times of 4:29.66 and 4:33.70 respectively. The 200 IM was next on the docket with the top Fairfield women's finisher being
Callie Gray who took third in the B final with a time of 2:05.42. Bobby Regan recorded the top individual placement for the men's team by taking fourth place, completing the distance in 1:49.78.
Bauman returned to the pool to take the Stags' best finish in the 50 free, securing ninth in the B final based on her time of 24.12. Rouse also made his second start for the night, garnering 10
th place in the A final, collecting a time of 20.87.
The 400 medley relay was the final swimming event of the night and the women completed the competition with a bronze finish, putting up a time of 3:44.66 behind the efforts of
Katie Torrey,
Tone Sandsjo, Bashor, and De Pree. The men's squad put up the same finish by posting its time of 3:16.78, a team consisting of McMillan, Balazs Ament, Tim Regan, and Rouse.
On the diving board, Andrew Cataldo earned the top finish in the men's 3-meter diving by posting 244.80 points during his rotation. Lillian Tonole garnered the highest finish in the 1-meter dive for the women's program, recording 216.50 points for 14
th place overall.
On Saturday, the second day of competition will include the preliminaries and finals for the 200 medley relay, the 400 IM, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke, the 100 backstroke, and the women's 3-meter as well as the men's 1-meter dives. The evening concludes with the 800 free relay. The preliminary round starts at 10 am while the finals are slated for 6 pm.
