FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will return to the pool this weekend with a tri-meet against Boston University and host Colgate University. The three teams will compete in Hamilton, N.Y. on Saturday, January 10. The meet is scheduled for a 1 pm start.
The Stags are familiar with Boston University after spending three days at its campus in late November with Fairfield being one of eight teams at the Terrier Invitational. Fairfield received strong performances from freshman
Natasha De Pree and sophomore Balazs Ament. Both student-athletes earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Swimmer of the Week award while De Pree tacked on her third Rookie of the Week accolade.
De Pree earned three individual wins while also taking part in several relays over the three-day event. She started the Invitational with a win in the 500 yard freestyle (4:50.45) in addition to posting the best time in the 200 yard freestyle (1:50.11) and the 1650 yard freestyle (16:44.48).
Ament also participated several relay races in addition to taking top honors in the 100 breaststroke (54.48) and the 200 yard breaststroke (1:59.77), before finishing with a fourth-place swim in the B final of the 200 IM (1:52.24). The weekly MAAC honor was his first of the season.
Fairfield returns to team competition for the first time since traveling to Fordham University on November 1. The women's team looks to improve on its 2-2 overall record while the men's squad puts its unbeaten 4-0 mark on the line.
Boston University is also returning to competition for the first time since hosting the Terrier Invitational and is swimming outside an invitational format for the first time since taking on UMass on November 8. Both the women's team brings a 2-3 overall record into the weekend after both dropped a decision to UMass.
Colgate University will take to the water for the first time since November as well with both teams swimming for the first time since welcoming Marist University to campus. The women's team has posted a win in four of its five meets this year while the men's squad brings a 1-4 mark through the first half of the campaign.
Following its trip to Hamilton, N.Y., Fairfield will return for its final home meet of the season when it hosts Iona University on Saturday, January 17. The men's and women's programs will honor their senior class in between the diving and swimming portions of the meet.
