FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will embark on their longest conference road trip as they travel to Buffalo, N.Y., to face the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday at 1pm. The Stags, while still unbeaten in the MAAC, have drawn twice in their last three outings. Fairfield's 11 points has the squad in fifth place in the conference standings but only one point behind the four-way tie for first.
The Stags took a season-high 30 shots in their last game against Marist but could not find the back of the net.
Maddy Theriault and
Ashlyn Walsh led the squad by combining for 13 of those shots. Among the 30 attempts, the Stags had eight on target with two being stopped with defensive saves and one Theriault shot hitting off the crossbar.
On the Fairfield defensive end, goalkeeper
Katie Wright made five saves in picking up her fourth shutout of the season and the 22nd of her career. She is also one win shy of tying the program's all-time mark of 49 victories set by Anne Lyons 25 years ago.
Canisius is coming off their first conference loss of the season, falling to Sacred Heart 3-1. Jessica Whitaker is the team leader with four goals and 10 points. Chloe Tseros has played every minute in net for the Griffs with a 2.0 goals against average and a .700 save percentage.
