MONTGOMERY, N.Y.-- Hannah Snayd, who took first place two weeks ago at the Marist College Season Opener, continued her strong debut as a college cross country student-athlete on Saturday morning with a fifth place finish out of more than 140 competitors in the 2024 Jasper Fall XC Invitational hosted by Manhattan University..
Snayd covered the 6K course at the Twin Ponds on the Farm, which will also be the site of the MAAC Championship Meet in early November, in a time of 21:00.2. She was less than seven second outside of third place and 36 seconds off the individual pace set by Stony Brook's Grace Weigele.
Sophomore Mia Strazzella was the next Fairfield runner to cross the line, taking 24th place in a time of 22:25.3.
Devan Gambello (22:45.8) in the 34th spot, Carlina Castro (23.29.7) and Catherine Gobo (24:32.2), who are all freshmen, rounded out the team's top five runners in this season's second meet. Molly Ryle, Anna Heras and Callie DeDecko also competed on the course for the Stags.
As a team on Saturday, the Stags slotted into seventh place out of 11 squads, besting MAAC foes Sacred Heart, Merrimack and Manhattan as well as Felician College. Stony Brook won the event with a score of 49 points. In addition ito the individual winner, the Seawolves boasted five of the top 15 finishers.
Up next, the Fairfield women's cross country team is back in action next Saturday, September 21 at the Ted Owen Invitational hosted by Central Connecticut State University in New Britain's Stanley Quarter Park.
