EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer freshman striker
Ashlyn Walsh was named the Jersey Mikes MAAC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week following a two goal performance in her first collegiate week. Both of her scores were game-winners as she broke a tied score in the second half against Holy Cross before tallying the lone goal in Fairfield's win over reigning NEC Champions Central Connecticut State.
"Ashlyn is off to a great start and we're really happy for where she is at in her growth," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "She has a high ceiling and we'll do our best to help her get better each day."
Walsh notched a goal in both of her first two collegiate contests, both of those being game-winners. In her collegiate debut, she chased down a pass from
Maddy Theriault in the 66th minute and converted her one-on-one opportunity. In the road win at Central Connecticut, she leapt to get a right foot on a corner kick for the first and only score of the game.
Walsh came to Fairfield after being named Lowell Sun Player of the Year twice and breaking Pelham High School's career goal record (96) and single season mark (39). The three-time team captain also holds the school's career points record with 117.
Walsh and the Stags are back in action when they travel to College Station to face the preseason nationally-ranked Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night at 8pm EST.
