FLEMING ISLAND, Fla.-The Fairfield University men's golf team wrapped up play on Saturday in its 2024 season-opening tournament, the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invitational, which took place at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club in Fleming Island, Florida; and the Stags shot a team total of 304 over the final 18 holes. Over the 36-hole, two day event in the Sunshine State, Fairfield finished with a team score of 613 putting them in eighth place out of nine teams. Purdue Fort Wayne won the weekend's team trophy shooting a one over par 577.
Graduate student Patrick McCarthy had a top-notch final round to lead the Stags firing the second best score of the day at 71, which is one under par. McCarthy finished just shy of the Top Ten for the tournament as he tied for eleventh with a two-day total of 148 (77-71).
Juniors Jonathan Bushka finished with a two-day score of 151 which tied him for twentieth place after shooting a 73 on Friday and 78 on Saturday.
Junior Colin Summers started the spring season by shooting a total of 153 over the two days (76-77) placing him in a tie for twenty-sixth.
Freshman Anthony Naples with a 157 (76-81), graduate student Shane DeVincenzo with a 158 (80-78) and junior Zachary Maloy with a 164 (85-78) completed the list of Stags that competed in both rounds of play over the weekend.
Burke Pitz of Purdue Fort Wayne topped the individual leaderboard for the weekend taking medalist honors shooting 141 (-3) for the two rounds.
The Fairfield men's golf team will return to the links on March 29 and 30 at the Battle at Rum Pointe ib Berlin, Maryland on the Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links.
