Box Score BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team opened its 2024 Spring Break trip to North Carolina on Monday afternoon with a 6-1 loss against the host Gardner-Webb University Bulldogs at the Webb Tennis Center. The Stags are now 1-4 on the season in dual match play; while the hosts move to 2-5 overall.
Fairfield started the day strong, as for the third consecutive match, the Stags earned the double point on Monday getting wins at number one from Sarah Liu and Maeve Cassidy (6-3) and a point-clinching victory at number two from the duo of Katarina Plumtree and Nicolette Loeffler (6-4).
After dropping the doubles point, the host Bulldogs stormed back to win the match by sweeping all six singles flights.
Maeve Cassidy would highlight singles action for Fairfield against Gardner-Webb, as she battled for three sets at number six before falling in a hard-fought super tiebreaker, 8-10, after splitting two sets, 6-3 and 6-7 (5).
The Stags women's tennis team is right back on the courts for the second of three matches in North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon traveling to Elon University. Action against the Phoenix is slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
