Box Score LATHAM, N.Y.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team got back into the win column and remained undefeated in conference play with hard-fought 4-3 road win over the host Siena College Saints on Friday. The Stags are now 4-8 overall and 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play, and the Saints slip to 0-2 in the MACC and 2-10 overall.
Fairfield took Friday's doubles point on the strength of victories at the number two flight from the duo of Francesca Karman and Lily Malinowski, 6-3, and a clinching win at number three from Laina Campos and Nicolette Loeffler, 6-1.
The talented freshmen trio of Nicolette Loeffler, Lily Malinowski and Maeve Cassidy would then power the Stags to the match win with victories in singles by Loeffler at number three, 6-4, 6-2, Malinowski at number five, 7-5, 6-3, and Cassidy at number six, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
Malinowski has now posted sixth straight singles wins.
Said head coach Jeff Bricker, "The doubles point proved to be huge for us today! We battled to get that point and then relied on our three freshmen to get us the W in singles. Nicolette, Lily and Maeve came up big today for the team!"
The Fairfield women's tennis team is right back in action on Saturday at home when the Stags will host Merrimack College in the squad's penultimate, non-conference match. First serve at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts is set for 12 noon.
