BERLIN, Md. – Fairfield University Men's Golf improved by 20 strokes in Saturday's final round of the Battle at Rum Pointe, finishing tied for fourth place of 18 teams at the Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links.
Colin Summers set the pace for the Stag, sharing fourth place on the individual leaderboard.
Summers carded a final round 71 to move from eighth to fourth place. He was just one stroke outside the top three and three shots shy of second place. La Salle's Ben Battye ran away with medalist honors, firing a 137 (-7) to beat the field by six strokes.
Patrick McCarthy shot an even-par 72 on Saturday to finish tied for 11th place in the 100-golfer field.
Shane DeVincenzo also cracked the top 20 with a +7 for the weekend.
On the team charts, the Stags shot a 289 on Saturday to follow up on Friday's 309. Fairfield finished tied with fellow MAAC squad Mount St. Mary's. La Salle won the team crown with a +14 to best second-place Penn by one shot and third-place Iona by three.
The Stags are back on the course next weekend for the AC Match Play event at Shore Gate Golf Club in Ocean View, N.J.
