Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn.-After opening their 2024 conference schedule with a road win over Mount Saint Mary's on Sunday, the Fairfield University women's tennis team returned home on Monday afternoon and fell 5-2 in a non-conference match at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts versus local rival, the Pioneers of Sacred Heart University. After Monday's action, the Stags are 3-8 on the year; while SHU ups its overall record to 14-3.
The Stags earned both of their wins on Monday in singles play, as freshman Lily Malinowski continued her stellar play in the last few weeks posting the fifth straight singles victory topping her opponent 7-5, 6-4 at number three, and graduate student Francesca Karman picked up a three-set, super tiebreaker triumph in the number two slot.
Said head coach Jeff Bricker, "The team battled today but just couldn't pull it off. We had a slow start in doubles which cost us going into singles, but I love how we competed."
The Fairfield women's tennis team will continue a busy week of action on Thursday when the squad returns to MAAC play with a match at Siena. First serve is set for 12 noon.
