Swimming & Diving Completes Second Day At ECAC Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed the middle day of the three-day ECAC Championships this afternoon with several student-athletes adding points to the team totals. The meet concludes on Sunday on the United States Naval Academy's campus. The men's team finished the night with 106 team points which stands 8th overall while the women's program collected 34 points which places 16th overall.

The women's 200 medley relay started off the scoring for the Stags by taking an eighth-place finish, touching the wall in 1:49.13 behind the efforts of Shauna Harney, Tone Sandsjo, Gabriella Tejeda, and Abbie DiGregorio. Joseph Stewart was the first men's swimmer to put points on the board with his fifth place swim in the 400 IM, completing the distance in 3:56.31. Joey Nizzardo and Ryan Woodzell competed in the preliminaries as well, timing out in 4:16.48 and 4:17.13, respectively.

Tim Regan captured third in the B final and 11th overall in the 100 fly with his final time of 49.30 while teammates Nicholas Besgen (49.85) and Alex Sirkowa (50.98) also participated in the preliminaries of the event. Tone Sandsjo garnered points in the 100 breaststroke by netting a seventh-place finish with her time of 103.95. Jeffrey Vlass was in the pool for the same event and completed his day with a time of 58.20 in preliminary competition.

The women's 100 back drew two Fairfield swimmers in DeGregorio and Harney as the pair posted times of 59.79 and 1:00.14 respectively in the preliminary round. Oliver McLaughlin took home the first-place slot in the B final of the 100 back, posting a time of 49.99 which was ninth overall. The men's 800 free relay was the final event of the day for Fairfield with the Stags taking seventh place (6:56.15) behind the efforts of Besgen, Regan, Sirkowa, and Woodzell.
