Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn.-The Stags' women's tennis team opened its 2024 home outdoor schedule at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon, and Fairfield fell to the visiting Sharks of Long Island University, 6-1. Fairfield now stands at 2-6 on the season; while LIU moves to 4-3 overall.
In doubles, the Stags' duo of sophomore Sarah Liu and freshman Maeve Cassidy picked a win at number one to send doubles action into a deciding bout at number three in which the Sharks prevailed to earn that point.
Freshman Lily Malinowski, the reigning MAAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, continued her strong play earning her team's lone singles win with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at the number four flight.
Head coach Jeff Bricker summed up his team's performance on Saturday saying, "Today was a tough match for the women. We had our chances in both doubles and singles but couldn't breakthrough. LIU played very solid tennis. Lily had another good win at four and Maeve/Sarah played great at number one doubles."
Up next, the women's tennis team is right back in action tomorrow, Sunday, March 17 traveling to Lafayette. First serve is set for 12 noon.
