Box Score WARWICK, R.I.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team picked up its first win of 2024 on Saturday, as the Stags topped the host Providence University Friars, 6-1, in a non-conference dual match played at Tennis Rhode Island West Bay. Fairfield moves to 1-2 on the season; while Providence slips to 1-7 so far in 2024.
The visitors jumped on the hosts by taking the double point, as the number two pairing of Sarah Liu and Maeve Cassidy earned a 6-2 win and the number three duo of Laina Campos and Lucie Tuttle won the point with a 6-3 triumph.
The Stags dominated singles play on Saturday getting four straight sets victories coming from Sarah Liu at number one, Katarina Plumtree at number two, Nicolette Loeffler at number three and Scarlett Hutchinson at number six plus a three-set triumph by Lily Malinowski at number five.
Head coach Jeff Bricker was pleased with his team's play on Saturday saying, "It was nice to get the win today. We came out with energy in doubles and carried it over to singles."
The Fairfield women will look to sweep their weekend trip to Rhode Island on Sunday when they take on Bryant University at 12 noon.
