GENEVA, Ohio – The Fairfield University women's swimming and diving team hold the top spot with 127 team points while the men's swimming and diving team are tied for fourth with 60 points in the team standings as the first day of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) ended.
The Stags set a conference and meet record in the 200 medley relay as
Erini Pappas,
Tone Sandsjo,
Maggie O'Donnell, and
Nora Segurola-Larrinaga combined to take first place with a time of 1:41.70. The time eclipsed the mark set by the Rider University relay team in the 2020 event which stood at 1:41.79.
The men's foursome touched the wall in 1:29.91 which placed sixth in the 200 medley relay behind the efforts of Oliver McLaughlin, Hans Lim, Alex Sirkowa, and Patrick Gill. Rider University captured the top spot by completing the course in 1:29.04.
The women's 1-meter diving followed the relays and Fairfield was well represented by putting three competitors in the top six places.
Alexis Gaulin secured first place with 273.80 points nearly 40 points more than the runner up. Lillian Tonole was third in the diving event by tallying 234.95 points while
Lia Oppenheim garnered sixth place in the A final by registering 205.00 points.
Elizabeth Beaulieu advanced to the B final and secured third in the standings and 11
th overall with 184.25 points.
The swimmers returned to the pool for the 800 free relay in which Pappas,
Callie Gray,
Sydney Scalise, and
Erin Hoyland combined for third place based on their time of 7:33.31. The men's relay team was edged in the 800 free relay by Marist College (6:33.81) as Aidan Schnapf, Ed Hunt, Tim Regan, and Joseph Stewart clocked in at 6:33.99.
The women's team standings after the first day show Fairfield in the lead followed by Marist (98 points), Rider (81), Niagara and Siena (72 each), Canisius (62), Mount St. Mary's (58), Iona (56), Manhattan (36), and Saint Peter's (14).
The men's team standings include Rider (66 points), Marist (64), Niagara (62), Fairfield and Iona (60), Canisius (58), Mount St. Mary's (56), Saint Peter's (46), and Manhattan (36).
Day two will feature the 500 free, the 200 IM, the 50 free, and the 3-meter diving beginning with the preliminaries at 10 am followed by the finals at 6 pm.
