Stags Host Final Home Weekend, Celebrate Seniors at Mahoney Arena

Fairfield hosts Canisius and Niagara in two key MAAC matchups

Fairfield, Conn. – The final home weekend of the regular season brings Canisius and Niagara to Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Nov. 9-10 as Fairfield University Volleyball looks to maintain its position atop the MAAC standings. First serves on both days are slated for 1 p.m.; the Stags will celebrate Senior Day prior to the Saturday meeting with the Griffs.

Senior Day
Fairfield University Stags (15-11, 13-1 MAAC)
  • Fairfield received the first blemish on its MAAC record this past Sunday, falling in five sets at Quinnipiac. The Stags maintained first place in the conference with a 13-1 mark as a part of a 15-11 overall record.
  • With two wins this weekend, Fairfield would clinch at least a share of its 23rd MAAC Regular Season Championship. The Stags can also claim a share of the title with one win and at least one loss from both Quinnipiac and Rider.
  • One win would also lock the Stags into a top-four seed and a bye to the quarterfinal round of the MAAC Championship. The top two seeds in the bracket earn an additional bye to the semifinal round.
  • Kyla Berg became the sixth member of Fairfield's 1,500 Dig Club on Sunday. Berg is also fifth all-time at Fairfield with 3.47 digs per set.
  • Maya Walker also cracked the career top 10 in blocks, putting down eight at Quinnipiac to improve her career total to 279 rejections.

Canisius University Golden Griffins (14-11, 10-4 MAAC)
  • Canisius has won four straight matches – and six of its last seven – to surge into fourth place in the MAAC at 10-4.
  • The Griffs most recently hosted and defeated Manhattan and Iona to clinch a MAAC postseason berth.
  • In last month's meeting with the Stags – a 3-2 Fairfield victory – the Griffs were led by 18 kills from Lauren Hubert and a double-double comprised of 13 kills and 14 digs by Sofia Hedqvist.

Niagara University Purple Eagles (13-12, 9-5 MAAC)
  • Niagara also took two wins from Iona and Manhattan last weekend to keep pace near the top of the MAAC. The Purple Eagles are one game behind Canisius for fourth place, though the Griffs own the head-to-head tiebreaker.
  • Fairfield won a 3-1 decision from Niagara last month at the Falls. Niagara was led by 10 kills and 11 digs from Kinga Wronska.

Up Next
  • Fairfield wraps up the regular season next weekend against MAAC Volleyball's New Jersey contingent.
  • The Stags visit Rider on Saturday, Nov. 16 and Saint Peter's on Sunday, Nov. 17.
