FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams make the trip to Poughkeepsie this weekend for a dual meet with Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Marist College. The meet is slated for Saturday beginning at 1 pm.
The Stags are coming off their second straight dual meet sweep with their decisions over Monmouth University last weekend The men's team edged out the Hawks by a 154-140 score while the women's squad picked up a 200.5-89.5 win over the team.
Three women won dual events for the Stags last weekend, namely
Erini Pappas (100 & 200 back),
Olivia Thompson (50 & 100 free), and
Erin Hoyland (200 & 400 free). On the men's side, Andrew Cataldo continued his winning ways on the diving board. The three-time MAAC diver of the week posted first-place point totals in the 1-meter (236.85 points) and the 3-meter dives (276.15 points). All in all, Fairfield won 17 events plus two relays during the afternoon.
Fairfield has won back-to-back dual meets which includes a 228-68 win over Providence College for the men and a 212-85 victory over the Friars for the women. The teams owns a 2-1 mark in dual meets this season with Marist marking the fourth of seven on the docket this year. The Stags will also compete against Binghamton University, Iona College, and UMass in January.
The Marist men's swimming and diving team bring a 2-0 mark into Saturday's meet, defeating MAAC opponents Canisius University (154-117) and Rider University (161-129). The Red Foxes' women's swimming and diving team own a 2-1 record after falling to the University of Vermont (170-127) but beating Canisius (170-124) and Rider (178-109).
The Red Foxes feature James Conable who earned MAAC swimmer of the week on October 16 for his effort in the 200 free, the 200 back, and the 200 IM. Caden Hardy was also named the MAAC swimmer of the week on October 2 for his performance in the 50 and 100 breaststroke against Army and Fordham. For the women, April Avila garnered a MAAC swimmer of the week accolade for her performance against Army and Fordham, excelling in the 50 and 100 breaststroke as well.
Following this meet, the Stags will have a couple weeks off before returning to the pool for the Terrier Invitational hosted by Boston University on November 22-24. Preliminaries are scheduled for 10 am each day with the finals set for 6 pm on Friday and Saturday as well as 5 pm on Sunday.
