FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer senior
Allie Kirby was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Week following her three-point performance with a goal and an assist in Fairfield's unbeaten week. This is the first career weekly honor for Kirby who was also named to the All-MAAC Second Team last season.
"It's a great honor for Allie," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "She worked really hard getting ready for the season and was in a really great position to affect the games this week. She scored a good goal and was a real important part of what we were doing going forward this weekend. We're looking forward to big things from her for the rest of the season."
Kirby notched a point in each of Fairfield's matches during their opening week starting with a goal against America East favorites Binghamton. The senior one-timed a pass from
Maddy Theriault into the right side of the net to open up the second half and give the Stags a 2-0 advantage as the squad would win by that same score.
She continued her performance by dishing out an assist in the lone goal the Stags tallied in the 1-1 draw against UMass Lowell. The senior tapped a pass to
Aubrey Silverman who was able to launch a long strike into the top corner for her first career tally.
Kirby logged 176 out of a possible 180 minutes during the week while taking six shots with three of them on target.
With Fairfield's 1-0-1 week they extend their non-conference home unbeaten streak to 15-straight under Head Coach
David Barrett. Kirby and the Stags will put that streak on the line when they welcome No. 23 Harvard to Lessing Field on Friday at 6pm.
