Box Score NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – The Stags captured the doubles point and the top two singles flights, but a tough match in upstate New York saw Fairfield University men's tennis fall 4-3 at Niagara Saturday afternoon.
"Another tough for the men. We came out strong in doubles but came up a little short despite a great battle," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We need to get healthy quickly and get ready for Marist back home on Tuesday."
Despite the loss, Alex Aguiar and Kaya Gore teamed up to start the day with a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles, and were followed by Kostas Kollias and Keean Shah who earned a victory in the second duel 6-4 to claim the point for the round. Jonathan Olive-Blanco and Tolunay Sumer would join for the topflight win, rounding out a sweep for the Stags with a 6-4 win as well.
In singles, Olive-Blanco earned another topflight victory for himself to take a three-setter 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 and Gore won in straight sets at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-2.
Fairfield men's tennis will look to bounce back Tuesday when they return home to host Marist. First serve between the Stags and the Red Foxes is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from the WAC Tennis Courts.
