LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. – Paced by a fifth-place finish by graduate student Julia Towne, the Fairfield University women's golf team brought home a fourth-place finish at the 2023 MAAC Championships. In addition, Director of Fairfield Golf Doug Holub and Assistant Director Sara Laterza were recognized for the third consecutive season as the Coaching Staff of the Year.
Towne opened the tournament with a record-setting five-under performance, setting new program marks for low round score and score vs par to lead the field on day one. She would go on to finish the weekend as the top finisher for the Stags, in a share of fifth place behind a trio of Quinnipiac players who would take the team and individual titles. Sydney Nethercott would notch a 12th place finish at 11-over across the three rounds, and in a share of 19th place was Addy Douglas who improved from her opening round score with a 76 and 77 in her final two rounds.
Rounding out the Fairfield quintet were Juliette Prud'Homme and Grace Kryscio who each closed the championships in a tie for 21st in the field as the Stags improved by two places from their first a season ago. Quinnipiac would take the team title with a 28-stroke lead on the field, with Albany finishing second and Loyola third to round out the podium places. The Stags in fourth were three shots ahead of fifth place Dayton and 15 ahead of The Mount, with Siena, LaSalle, and Niagara rounding out the field.
The Stags close the 2022-23 season having captured two team victories, one in both the fall and the spring to cap another strong year for the squad.
