ANNAPOLIS, MD. – In their final tune-up ahead of the postseason, a pair of Stags brought home top-20 finishes this weekend to lead the Fairfield University women's golf team at the Navy Spring Invitational.
Pacing the squad through the weekend was Addy Douglas who carded a pair of 76's on the Par 72 layout at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club, placing in a share of 14th place across each of the two rounds. One shot back of her was Sydney Nethercott who improved by one stroke from day one to day two, to finish at nine over par in a share of 16th place within the 43-player field.
Just a couple shots back of that pair was Julia Towne who was the biggest mover for the squad across the weekend, improving by eight strokes in the final round with a two over, 74 to finish in 21st place. Rounding out the lineup sat a trio of Stags all within a tie of 27th place in the field, including Juliette Prud'Homme and Grace Kryscio to complete the Fairfield quintet and Katelynn Waclawski who served as an individual this weekend.
The Stags as a team finished in fourth place of seven schools, with Dartmouth running away to win the tourney at just six over as a team, 19 shots ahead of second place Yale and the host Mids to wrap the podium places. The Stags would place 13 shots ahead of Youngstown State in fifth, followed by Bucknell and Wagner to round out the tournament
For the Stags their attention now turns to this weekend when they embark for Lake Buena Vista, Fla. for the 2023 MAAC Championships from Walt Disney World Resort, a three-day 54-hole tournament on Disney's Palm Course this Friday-Sunday with the winning team earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
