Box Score TRUMBULL, Conn. – A dominating performance at the Tennis Club of Trumbull Saturday night saw the Fairfield University men's tennis team sweep Lafayette 7-0 for its first win of the spring campaign.
"We came out with energy from first point to last and took care of business," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "Nice to get one in the win column; we have a quick turnaround for Brown tomorrow, but we will be ready."
Fairfield opened the day with a victory in the No. 2 doubles flight, as Jonathan Olive-Blanco and Kostas Kollias teamed up for the first time and came away with a 6-1 win. That was followed by Griffin Schlesinger and Andrew Immink who captured their first win together in the No. 3 duel by a final of 6-2 to clinch the round for the Stags going into singles.
In solo action, Olive-Blanco became the first player to sweep the day, taking the No. 2 game in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, his fourth win of the season to open the round for Fairfield. In the third flight, Tolunay Sumer nabbed his fourth win of the campaign also in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-1 win, before Kaya Gore won back-to-back sets 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the match for the Stags with the team score at 4-0.
Despite the match already in hand, Fairfield continued the winning in the No. 4 singles match as Kollias swept the day for himself as he dropped just two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 win, his fifth of the season. Schlesinger took his sixth win of the campaign in the No. 5 duel 6-2, 6-2, and Immink followed in succession in the sixth flight 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Fairfield men's tennis has a quick turnaround as their back in action Sunday afternoon with a trip Rhode Island to take on Brown. First serve against the Bears, from Providence is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
