Young Lineup Hits the Course at New England Championship

Three freshmen and three sophomores represented the Stags at Franklin Park

BOSTON – Fairfield University Men's Cross Country sent a lineup comprised of three freshmen and three sophomores to Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday for the New England Championship. The Stags were paced by Olli Muniz in a field of 15 of the region's top teams.

Muniz completed the 8K in 27:17.6 to place 60th out of 139 harriers. His classmates Coloin Shand and Chase Orciuch were the next two Stags to cross the line in 80th and 83rd place, respectively. The trio of sophomores – Jack Putnam, Ryan Lindley and Alex Petersen – rounded out the youthful Fairfield squad to compete this afternoon in Boston.

On the team leaderboard, the Stags placed 14th.

Rhode Island won the team title with all five scorers among the top 11 finishers. The Rams were paced by individual New England Champion Ben Fleischer, who beat the field by over 30 seconds with a time of 24:45.7.

Up next for the Stags is the CCSU Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 20. The local race is Fairfield's final tune-up for the upcoming MAAC Championship.
