FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer sophomore
Alex Darcy was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal and dishing out an assist in the regular season finale against Saint Peter's. Darcy, who earns her first career Player of the Week accolade, becomes the seventh different Stag to earn a weekly award from the conference office this season.
"Alex has really come back well from her injury at the start of September," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "She is hitting good form just in time for the playoffs!"
Darcy recorded the game-winning tally in the 12th minute as she deflected in a free kick from
Elle Scott to open the scoring for the Stags. She had a hand in Fairfield's next score as she sent in a free kick and found the head of
Maddy Theriault who pushed the shot past the keeper to put the score at 2-0.
Darcy attempted a career-high four shots in the match with two of those on target. She has now netted three goals in her career with a pair this year.
Darcy and the rest of the Stags are back in action on Thursday night when they host a MAAC Semifinal match against fourth-seeded Mount St. Mary's on Lessing Field at 7pm.
