MONTGOMERY, N.Y. – After a three-week hiatus from competition, Fairfield University Women's Cross Country returned to competition Saturday afternoon, competing in the MAAC Championship at Twin Ponds on the Farm in Montgomery, N.Y.
Mia Strazzella was the first Fairfield harrier to cross the line, finishing the 6K course with a time of 23:13.7.
Claire Mason and
Isabella Colabatistto were the next two Stags to finish behind Strazzella, crossing the line at 24:35.4 and 24:43.2, respectively. In the last MAAC Championship of their careers, senior captains
Catherine Lanahan and
Emily Dalla Riva would follow, completing the championship course at 24:49.8 and 24:55.6.
In her first Championship,
Michaela Kenny finished with a time of 25:32.3. Right behind her,
Natalie Haracz ran 25:58.7, and
Megan Furlong crossed the line at 26:18.0.
As a team, the Stags placed eighth in a strong MAAC Championship field. Defending team champion Quinnipiac took home the title once again with five of their top runners finishing in the top 10. Iona's Tayla Gunton was the women's 6K individual champion, finishing with a time of 20:54.6.
After today, the Stags travel to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. for the final competition of the fall season, the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship on Friday, Nov. 10.
