STORRS, Conn. - Fairfield University women's tennis will make its 2022-23 debut this weekend as they head upstate for the Quinnipiac Invitational hosted on the campus of the University of Connecticut. The Stags' first appearance of the campaign will see them take on a trio of opponents as part of the fall 2022 calendar in preparation for their championship season in the spring.
STAGS SCOUTING REPORT
Fairfield women's tennis returns to action this season in the ninth year under Head Coach Jeff Bricker. The Stags went 10-11 last season, including a 4-2 record in the MAAC, which earned them the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament. In sweeping fashion, they would upend No. 2 seed Siena to advance to the MAAC title game for the third year in a row where they fell to Quinnipiac 4-0.
WEEKEND SCOUTING REPORTS
UConn - Fairfield's first match of the weekend will see them take on the local team in UConn, as they look to avenge last year's loss to the Huskies in the spring opener. Last season, Connecticut went 10-12 and 2-3 during BIG EAST play, taking victories over Providence and Rhode Island. The Huskies reached the BIG East Playoffs defeating Villanova in a 4-0 sweep in the first round before falling to St. John's in the quarterfinals.
Quinnipiac - The host Bobcats will be Fairfield's challenger on day two in what will be a rematch of last season's MAAC title game. The two sides also squared off during the regular season last spring where the Stags became the first MAAC team to defeat Quinnipiac and hand them their first regular-season conference loss since 2013. The 2021-22 Bobcats went 13-9 and earned a share of the regular season title in the MAAC with a 5-1 record in league play. After defeating Niagara 4-0 to advance to the championship where they claimed their sixth MAAC championship and first since winning five straight from 2014-2018. The Bobcats made the 2022 NCAA championship as the conference auto-bid where they fell to Duke 4-0 in the opening round.
Army - The final round of the weekend will see Fairfield take on Army, a team they will face again later this fall at the West Point Invitational in late September. The Golden Knights played an impressive 35 matches last season going 25-10 including a 5-2 record in Patriot League competition. After earning the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, Army upended No.6 Colgate and No. 2 Navy in 4-0 sweeps before taking down top-seeded Boston University to claim the conference title, 4-1. In the first round of the NCAA tournament, the Golden Knights squared off with nationally ranked No. 44 Princeton opening round, falling 4-0 to the Tigers.

The Stags return to action Sept. 23-25 when they head to West Point, N.Y. for the Army West Point Invitational.
