ELKHART, Ind. - School records fell, personal bests were met, and finals were made as the Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on the final day of the CSCAA National Invitational Meet. The Stags were well represented in most of the day's events highlighted by Erini Pappas setting the school standard in the 200 back.The men's team collected 50 points which placed the Stags 23rd in the national invitational.
The freshman started the event by making the school mark in the preliminary, finishing the distance with a time of 2:00.33. Pappas returned for the final later in the evening, taking 19th overall by touching the wall in 2:01.67. The men's 400 free relay team also established a school record on Saturday, completing the swim in 3:02.42 behind the efforts of
Joseph Stewart,
Peter Gori,
Evan Fair, and Alex Belfer.
Alison Sposili worked her way among Fairfield's all-time leaders in the 200 breast when she posted a time of 2:19.63 in the event. The time earned her a personal best mark and also served as the second-best time in school history for the event.Â
Three men swimmers also made the finals of their respective events on Saturday, namely Christopher Ford and
Jeff Vlass in the 200 breast along with
Evan Fair in the 200 fly. Ford placed 14th in the preliminary (2:01.17) before working his way up to 12th in the final (2:00.35). Vlass started the event with a time of 2:04.92 before taking 19th overall when he finished the distance with a time of 2:04.19. Fair took 17th place in both the preliminary and the final by registering marks of 1:50.80 and 1:50.33 respectively.
The Stags also saw several student-athletes perform in different events including the 100 IM, the 100 free, the 1000 free, and the 1650 free.
Ed Hunt recorded a time of 53.31 in the 100 IM while Alex Belfer finished the 100 free in 46.24. In the 1000 free,
Joey Nizzardo (10:06.02) and
Patrick Boyle (10:07.09) competed in the event. The duo also came back for the 1650 free with Nizzardo swimming the event in 16:47.31 and Boyle recording a time of 17:03.69.
