FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will close out the 2022 regular season when they host the Iona Gaels on Wednesday night at 7pm. With a win, the Stags would guarantee at least a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship, their first since 2012.
The Stags would also tie the program record with their ninth conference win, a feat that would tie the 1997 and 1998 squads. Fairfield enters the match with a 13-3 overall mark and their .812 win percentage ranks 14th in the nation. The Stags are also slotted No. 59 in the nation's RPI ranking, marking their highest spot ever in the RPI.
Fairfield has found their success with a balanced attack having three student-athletes:
Maddie Mills,
Maddy Theriault, and
Elle Scott all ranking in the top-5 of the MAAC. Mills leads the team with 18 points on six goals and six assists. She has tallied a goal and an assist in her last two games and has recorded a point in nine of her 13 appearances.
Scott leads the team and ranks second in the MAAC with seven assists with six of those helpers coming in the last six games. She is tied with Northeastern's Jessie Hunt for the most assists in the country during that span.
One of Fairfield's impressive freshmen,
Maddy Theriault leads all MAAC rookies in: goals (six), assists (five), and points (17). Four of her goals and four of her helpers have come in conference play.
In the net, freshman
Katie Wright has picked up 13 wins as well as a .790 save percentage and an 1.10 goals against average. Her 13 wins is the most among any freshman goalkeeper in the country and is tied for third in Fairfield single season history overall. With her next win she will tie Kathleen Early who picked up 14 wins in 2014.
Iona enters play with an 8-6-4 overall record and a 3-5-1 mark in the MAAC after suffering back-to-back losses following their big win over Quinnipiac. Kedarjah Lewis leads the team with four goals, four assists, and 12 points.
The Stags have already clinched a top-two spot in the MAAC and a bye into the MAAC Semifinals. They will next take the field at home on Thursday, Nov. 3.
