FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Riding a three match unbeaten streak, the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will return home starting with a contest against Hartford on Thursday night at 7pm. The game will start a stretch where the Stags will play four of five matches on Lessing Field.
The Stags were unbeaten during their busy week with three matches in a six day span. Fairfield is most recently coming off an exciting 1-1 draw against crosstown rivals Sacred Heart, which featured an historic late goal for the Stags. Trailing 1-0 heading into the final push of the game, Fairfield goalkeeper
Gena Pike was the one who drew the game even as she pushed in a corner kick for her first collegiate goal. Pike's goal marked the first ever goal scored by a Fairfield goalkeeper and just the second point recorded by a Stags goalkeeper (Anne Lyons in 1997).
Pike did have experience playing up front as she split time as a goalkeeper and field player in high school. In fact, Pike's last goal came in the North Jersey Championship Match as she scored the game-winning goal in her final high school match.
Her score and unbeaten week helped Pike earn the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week award as she added 10 saves in a 2-0-1 week.
Hartford enters with a 4-1 record with their only loss being a 1-0 loss at Texas Tech. Imani Jenkins leads the team with three goals and seven points. Maia Perez has allowed just two goals in 460 minutes for a 0.39 goals against average and a .875 save percentage.
The Stags will stay home and conclude non-conference play when they take on Dartmouth on Sunday at 2pm.
