FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will look to continue their dominating ways when they take the short trip to face crosstown rivals Sacred Heart on Sunday at noon. The Stags, who have scored 10 goals in their last two games, will look for their third-straight win.
Nine of Fairfield's 10 goals over the last two matches have come in the last 135 minutes, as the Stags have scored three goals in each of their last three halves.
The Stags touched net six times in their last match with a dominating 6-0 win against Holy Cross. The victory was a complete team effort as five different goal scorers touched net with three of those registering their first collegiate goal.
Elle Scott was at the forefront in Fairfield's best offensive production of the season as she score two goals and registered an assist. Scott's presence was felt on both sides of the ball as she forced a turnover in Holy Cross' defensive third which led to Fairfield's second goal.
Reagan Klarmann got the scoring started for the Stags in the first half when she tallied her first collegiate goal after a right footed strike.
Brooke Hernon was the offensive playmaker on set pieces as she tallied two assists on corner kicks. She found the head of
Josie Horosky in the first half and would later find the target forward in
Lexi Lehan's head for Fairfield's fifth goal.
Angela Filosa would cap the scoring as she took a rebounded cross from
Hannah Vogt to make the score 6-0.
Gena Pike combined with
Aytana Muschajew to record the shutout. Pike needed just one save in the first half while Muschajew stopped all three shots she faced in the final 45 minutes.
Sacred Heart brings a 1-2 record into the home contest and is coming off a win over reigning MAAC Champions Siena. The Pioneers were picked to finish third in the NEC in the preseason after finding offensive success last year with 12.98 shots per game and 6.0 on target.
The Stags will return home to Lessing Field to face Hartford on Thursday at 7pm.
