FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will conclude their 2021 spring regular season schedule as they take the short trip up I-95 to face crosstown rivals Quinnipiac on Tuesday at 3pm. The Stags will look to continue their momentum as they are unbeaten in their last three contests and hold a 2-1-1 record overall.
The Stags scored six times in their last road contest, with five of those coming in the first half. All five of those scores came in the first 35 minutes. Freshman
Maddie Kiely opened the scoring with a long looping shot from outside the box just six minutes into the contest. A pair of freshmen also set up Fairfield's second goal as
Allie Kirby sent in a free kick that deflected off the head of
Elle Scott and found the foot of
Gabby Diodati who was able to sneak the shot past the keeper. It was the first of two scores for Diodati in the half, as she also converted a penalty kick.
Scott was also at the forefront of Fairfield's third score as the rookie chased down a thru-ball and made a nice move to get a clear space past her defender and she sent a strike into the upper corner of the net. The Stags would cap their scoring with an
Ally Filipkowski score towards the end of the match, with
Hannah Vogt and
Hanley Courter picking up the assists.
Through just four games, the Stags rank fourth in the conference with 10 goals and second in the MAAC with 2.5 goals per game. Diodati is tied for third in the MAAC with three scores and freshman Scott ranks second with three assists.
Quinnipiac currently sits third in the table with 10 points and a 3-1-1 record. Rebecca Cooke is their leader on the offensive front with eight points, on three goals and two assists. Cooke places second in the MAAC with those eight points.
The Stags currently sit in sixth place in the MAAC with seven points. The MAAC Championships will begin on Friday with the Quarterfinal round hosted by the higher seed.
