EDISON, N.J. – Five student-athletes from Fairfield University Women's Tennis have earned All-MAAC honors, as announced on Friday by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Anna Komer highlighted the list of honorees with the third First Team nod of her career.
Komer claimed All-MAAC First Team honors at the #6 Singles spot with a 4-1 record in conference play. The Stags' lone senior was previously named All-MAAC First Team at both #4 Singles and #3 Doubles in Fairfield's 2019 MAAC Championship season.
Also garnering First Team recognition was the #1 Doubles pair of
Scarlett Hutchinson and
Francesca Karman. The duo was unbeaten in MAAC action with a 5-0 record.
The Second Team ledger featured
Katarina Plumtree at #3 Singles and the tandem of Plumtree and
Amanda Nowak at #2 Doubles. Plumtree was 3-2 in singles and teamed with Nowak to post a 3-0 doubles mark against MAAC competition.
Nowak adds the honor to her career résumé that includes MAAC Player and Rookie of the Year laurels as well as All-MAAC First Team recognition at #1 Singles and Doubles in 2019.
"It's always special to receive recognition for all of the hard work that has been put in, and we had a number of players that have had very good seasons," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "Congratulations to Francesca and Scarlett who went undefeated in conference play and played excellent doubles throughout the season. Anna has been getting done for four years and she was our anchor at #6 this year! Our doubles came on strong towards the end of the season and it's nice to see that we have two teams receive awards. Finally, Katarina had a very good freshman year playing all over the top half of our lineup. She's a gritty performer."
Fairfield earned the second seed in the MAAC Championship and will challenge third-seeded Siena this Saturday, April 24 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J. First serve is set for 2 p.m. The opposite side of the bracket features top-seeded Quinnipiac against fourth-seeded Niagara.
