EDISON, N.J. – After an unbeaten week for Fairfield University Women's Tennis, the Stags have swept this week's round of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference awards.
Anna Neyestani was selected as MAAC Player of the Week, and
Sophia Harris has been named the MAAC Rookie of the Week. Both players went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles in weekend wins over Siena and Merrimack.
Neyestani played in the top flight in both singles and doubles. In Friday's 6-1 win over Siena, she claimed a decisive 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 1 Singles and paired with
Maria Gell for a 6-2 triumph at No. 1 Doubles. Neyestani rolled to a pair of wins again on Sunday at Merrimack, posting a 6-3, 6-2 win in singles and teaming with Gell for a 6-1 doubles victory.
Harris played at #3 Singles and #3 Doubles in the win over Siena. She led 6-4, 5-2 in singles when her opponent retired due to injury, and partnered with
Maeve Cassidy for a 6-2 win on the doubles courts. Harris moved up to #2 in both Singles and Doubles on Sunday and responded with a 6-0, 6-2 singles win and a 6-1 doubles win – once again alongside Cassidy.
Fairfield University Women's Tennis is back in action tomorrow – Thursday, April 2 – for an 11:15 AM match at the Tennis Club of Trumbull against Sacred Heart.
