Women's Tennis Cruises To 7-0 Road Win Over Merrimack

Stags Now 3-0 In MAAC Play

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team wrapped up a busy week of action on Sunday with their third straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory, as the Stags cruised to a 7-0 road win over the host Merrimack College Warriors.  Fairfield is now 3-0 in the MAAC with Sunday's win and 5-9 overall.  Merrimack falls to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

The Stags opened play on Sunday by taking the doubles point winning all three flights by a 6-1 score.  Maria Gell and Anna Neyestani won at number one; Maeve Cassidy and Sophia Harris triumphed at number two, and Meg Harding and Sarah Liu prevailed at number three.

The good times kept rolling in singles for the visitors from Connecticut, as Fairfield posted five of their six wins in straight sets.

Anna Neyestani won at number, 6-3, 6-2, and Sophia Harris lost only two games in her match at number two, winning, 6-0, 6-2.

Maria Gell posted a 6-3, 6-0 win at number three, and Maeve Cassidy won at number four, 6-0, 6-2.

The squad's final straight-set triumph was a 6-0, 6-0 whitewash by Meg Harding at number six.

Dylin Pizzutello completed the Sunday sweep with a comeback, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) victory in a super tiebreaker at number five singles.

Up next, the Stags will look to continue their roll in conference play going when they take on Sacred Heart at the Tennis Club of Trumbull on Thursday, April 2 at 11:00 a.m.
