FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will play their first game in 11 days when they host the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday at 12pm. The Stags will also recognize the four members of the Senior Class of 2021:
Gabby Diodati,
Shannon Ryan,
Liz Dumas, and
Nicole Stryjek before the match.
The Stags will look to build upon an impressive result as they fought to a 2-2 draw against preseason favorites Monmouth. With the draw, the Stags became the first team in three years to grab a result against the Hawks at home and also snapped Monmouth's 10-game scoreless streak dating back to last season.
Dumas was the Stag to snap that streak as she raced in for a flying header on a beautiful cross by
Elle Scott to give the Stags the lead in just the fifth minute.
After a Monmouth tied the game on a penalty kick,
Maddie Kiely helped the Stags regain the advantage as her right foot found the ball at the top of the box and she sent a strike past the goalkeeper for her first career score.
The Hawks would tie the match again after a misplay by the Stags led to an own goal. After all four goals being recorded in the first half, the two teams would fight to a scoreless draw for the next 65 minutes for the final 2-2 draw. The Stags did have opportunities down the stretch and outshot Monmouth 16-15. Scott had the best chance in the overtime period as she opened up the second overtime with a shot that forced a diving save from the keeper.
The Jaspers have won their first two contests coming into a Friday match against Saint Peter's. The Jaspers opened the season with a 1-0 win over Canisius and a 2-1 double overtime win against Quinnipiac. The Jaspers have tallied three goals from three different players. Kim Mains has spent all 196 minutes with 11 saves and one goal allowed.
The Stags will host their final game of the 2021 spring regular season when they host Niagara on Tuesday at 12pm.
