Fairfield Tees off Spring Season with Third Place Finish at FDU Knights Shootout

Nethercott leads individually with top-10 finish

WATCHUNG, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis was on the course for the first time in 2021, teeing off at the FDU Knights Shootout at Watchung Valley Golf Club. Led by a top-10 finish from Sydney Nethercott in her Fairfield debut, the Stags placed third on the team leaderboard.

Nethercott was seven strokes off the pace with a 79 (+7) to share ninth place on a crowded leaderboard. Alexa Brown and Diana Velez were each one shot behind her, each carding an 80 (+8), and Addy Douglas trailed them by a single stroke with an 81 (+9) to round of Fairfield's scoring quartet.

The Stags' team score of 320 (+32) was 10 shots behind tournament winner St. John's and only three strokes behind second-place Fairleigh Dickinson. FDU was paced by an even-par 72 from individual medalist Caterina Tatti.

With their third-place showing, the Stags defeated all three fellow MAAC teams on the course today (Monmouth, Siena, La Salle) as well as local foe Sacred Heart.

The Stags will be right back on the course tomorrow – Monday, March 22 – for 18 holes at Blackledge Golf Club in Bloomfield for the Hartford/Blackledge Invitational.
