Grosso Leads the Way at New England Championships

Bornstein leads the way for Fairfield

BOSTON – Fairfield University Women's Cross Country placed 16th at the New England Championships on Saturday in Boston. Danielle Grosso was the first Stag to complete the 5K course at Franklin Park.
 
With the 16th place finish, the Stags topped seven opponents including Division I squads Sacred Heart, Hartford, Merrimack, Bryant and Maine.
 
Grosso finished 78th, the exact middle of the 155-runner field, with a time of 19:29.2. She was followed by Mia Melao in19:37.1, with Catherine Lanahan, Anna Weissenberg and Jane Frawley rounding out Fairfield's five scorers.
 
Several Stags also ran unattached in the "sub-varsity" race, with Caroline Burns and Alex Villalba finishing in the top half of the 148-runner field.
 
Up next, the Stags break from their Championship Season on Friday, Oct. 22 at the CCSU Mini-Meet in New Britain. The race at Stanley Quarter Park will be Fairfield's final competition before the 2021 MAAC Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
