Methnani, Taliaferro Sign To Play Professionally Overseas

              FAIRFIELD, ,Conn. – Landon Taliaferro and Wassef Methnani will continue their basketball careers in the professional ranks as both former Fairfield University men's basketball student-athletes will play overseas. Taliaferro will join Amicale Steinsel in Luxembourg Total League, the top division in Luxembourg. Methnani will join US Monastir, the defending champion in the Tunisia Pro A League, the top division in Tunisia. Taliaferro and Methnani both graduated in the spring.

                "We're extremely proud of Landon and Wassef for continuing their careers overseas," Head Coach Jay Young said. "Both represented Fairfield University and our program the right away on and off the floor. We wish them the best of luck in their professional careers and they will forever be Stags."

              Taliaferro ended his Fairfield career with 742 points in 61 games, a career scoring average of 12.2 points per game. He netted 153 three pointers over his two-year stay at Fairfield, highlighted by his 90 long-range jumpers in 2018-19. The guard set the school record for three-point field goals in a game when he netted 10 baskets in 15 attempts from behind the line against Texas A&M. As a junior, he ranked 22nd in Division I with his .423 three-point field goal percentage and 46th in the nation with his 3.0 three pointers made per game. He tallied 10 or more points in 37 games during his career.

              Methnani was a three-year contributor at Fairfield, spending time both as a starter and as a reserve. He was the team's top scoring reserve for most of the 2019-20 season, contributing 4.3 points per game through his 30 appearances. He reached double figures four times as a junior, contributing a season-best 16 points at Niagara. He added a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds against Monmouth. He placed second on the team with 20 blocks and placed 14th in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) (0.7 per game). He led all reserves in scoring as a sophomore with his 5.4 scoring average, a number enhanced by his 20 three pointers (61 total field goals). He posted a career-best 6.4 points per game as a freshman, shooting 48 percent from the floor overall (75 of 156).

              The Fairfield University men's basketball team will begin its second season under Head Coach Jay Young in 2020-21. The Stags led the conference in scoring defense for overall play by allowing 62.9 points per game as well as in conference play by yielding 62.1 points per contest in Young's first year at the helm.
