DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Madison Banas finished second in a field of 91 golfers to lead Fairfield University Women's Golf this week at the Lonnie Barton invitational. The Stags placed sixth in the 14-team field after 36 holes on the Hill Course at LPGA International in Daytona Beach.
Banas shared the individual lead after day one with an opening-round 73. She turned in another strong round on Tuesday with a 75 to wrap-up at +5. However, Fairleigh Dickinson's Tomita Arejola had the best round of the tournament with a final-round 70 (-2) to surge to the top of the leaderboard by three strokes with a +2.
Riley Sullivan was also among the individual top 20, and
Alexa Brown placed 29th to land in the top half of the 91-woman field.
Fairfield's sixth-place showing on the team leaderboard slotted them ahead of Bucknell, LIU, North Carolina A&T, Siena, Merrimack, Niagara, Ashland and Olivet Nazarene. Arejola's medalist performance was a part of a dominant team win for Fairleigh Dickinson, which beat the field by 31 strokes.
The Stags return to competition on April 5-6 at Great River Golf Club in Milford for the SHU Spring Invite.
