HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.-The Fairfield University women's golf team got off to a fine start on a chilly and blustery day one at the St. John's Invitational taking place at the St. Andrews Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., as after the first 18 holes of the two-round event, the Stags sit in first place by one shot over host St. John's University; plus sophomore Chulathida Seema holds a three-shot advantage atop the individual leaderboard.
As a team, Fairfield went +33 after the first 18-holes of the 36-hole event to lead second place St. John's (+34) by one stroke and third place Quinnipiac (+39) by six strokes. A total of 12 teams are in action in this week's tournament.
Seema fired a 74 on a windy Monday afternoon to finish at three-over par for the day and lead St. John's Lily Huynh and Quinnipiac's Sophia Fujita by three strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.
Addie Chang went +9 on Monday to sit in three-way, ninth place tie after Monday's action.
Katelynn Waclawski and Sofia Nogalo, who is playing as an individual, both finished at +10 for the opening 18 holes putting them in a tie for 12th place.
Ainhoa Jauregi at +11 and Grace Windfelder at +20 rounded out the Fairfield team scorers on Monday.
The final 18 holes at the St. John's Women's Invitational are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
