Women's Tennis Finds Success at Quinnipiac Invitational

HAMDEN, Conn. – Fairfield women's tennis competed in the Quinnipiac Invitational finishing the weekend with solid performances in both Singles and Doubles competition.
 
Sophia Prinos and Jessica Pil were both champions in their respective consolation brackets in Singles competition.
 
Prinos began competition with a loss to Mckinley Smith of Army in the first round of the D Singles bracket (6-0, 6-3). Prinos then went on to defeat Cathrine Gamble of Providence (8-2) in the consolation bracket. She took down Amy Zammarieh of Quinnipiac (8-3) in the second round and then defeated Manuela Gomez Estada of Bryant (8-3) to win the D Consolation Singles bracket.
 
Jessica Pil defeated Mari Fay of Sacred Heart (8-1) in the first round of consolation and then took down Aidan Epstein of Providence (8-4) to win the E Consolation Singles bracket.
 
Laina Campos picked up two wins in D Singles competition as she defeated Emmie Lindholm of Quinnipiac (6-4, 6-0). She then won her match against Sofia Kostirko of Boston University in the second round (1-6, retired) before falling to Sasha Incauste of Army (6-0, 6-4). 
 
Amanda Nowak picked up a win in A Singles defeating Yasemin Boru of Bryant (6-4, 7-5). Aina March also won in B Singles taking down Julia Migliorini of Providence (7-6 (7), 4-6, 11-9). Diana Prinos also won a match in B Consolation Singles against Payton Bradley of Quinnipiac (8-3).  Emily Lombardi also had two wins in consolation competition defeating Aleksi Gottilieb of Bryant (8-1) and Mimi Dailey of Providence (8-4) before falling to Elizabeth Gilbert of Army in the finals (8-4).
 
In Doubles competition, Diana Prinos and Paulina Bakaite made it to the semifinals of the A Doubles bracket. They first took down Vannelie Melendez and Katie Mulvey of Providence (6-3). They then defeated Payton Bradley and Kamilla Nella of Quinnipiac (6-3) before falling in the semifinals to Julieanne Bou and Cassie Chung of UConn (4-6).
 
"Prinos and Bakaite have gelled as a team very quickly and had a great run to the semis" said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "I think they can be a very good team for us as we move forward this year."
 
In the B Doubles bracket, Anna Komer and Francesca Karman picked up a win over Natalie Pitocco and Brenna Magliochetti of Providence (6-3). 
 
"It was great to get back on the court with the team and start working again" said Bricker. "These first few tournaments are about trying to get some match toughness back and learning the areas where we can improve. This is the most successful Quinnipiac Invitational I can remember in my 6 years, so I feel good about the season ahead!"
 
Fairfield will return to action as they travel to Malibu, California to compete in the Oracle ITA Master from September 26-29.
