Women’s Basketball Tips Off Doubleheader on Sunday at 1 PM

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will tip-off a Fairfield basketball doubleheader when they take on Iona at 1pm on the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall on Sunday. The game will be followed by the men's squad challenging Manhattan.

The Stags are coming off a comeback victory as they trailed by six at halftime in an eventual 69-61 win at Saint Peter's

Fairfield out-scored the Peacocks 39-25 in the second half and netted 21 in the fourth quarter. Lou Lopez-Senechal gave the Stags the lead for good with a buzzer beating jumpshot to end the third quarter. Sam Kramer made a big basket in the final period as her 3-pointer gave the Stags a two-posession lead, an advantage they would hold for the rest of the contest.

All five Stag starters reached double figures, led by Katie Armstrong's 19. Khadidiatou Diouf (12 pts, 13 rebs) and Lopez-Senechal (12 pts, 10 rebs) both notched double-doubles.

Casey Foley became the 16th Stag to reach 300 assists in her career in the win at Saint Peter's. Her 123 career 3-pointers also places her 10th on the career list. She is three long range shots away from Cara Murphy '07. She has also recorded 171 career steals which places her 12th all-time. Next up on the list is Pam Rivers '99 who swiped 172 in her career.

Head Coach Joe Frager reached a milestone in the victory at Saint Peter's, reaching 400 victories in his collegiate career. Frager picked up his 211th win as a Stag after winning 189, including a national championship at Southern Connecticut State.

Iona is playing their best basketball of the season over the last three games with victories over Monmouth and Saint Peter's and a narrow two-point loss to Manhattan.

The strength over the recent stretch has been the Iona defense that has surrendered just 54 points per game, lowering their season average to 63.9 points. The Gaels have been getting off to quick starts with 17.7 points in the first quarter.

Morgan Rachu is the only student-athlete who averages double figures with 11.2 points. Freshman Juana Camilion has reached double figures in each of the last three games, averaging 13.7 during the stretch. Tori Leso is the biggest playmaker for the squad with 3.1 assists per game.

The Stags will celebrate Senior Day and will face their final opponent of the regular season in Rider on Saturday, March 2, at 2pm.
