WORCESTER, Mass. – Fairfield men's swimming and diving picked up a big win today over Holy Cross defeating the Crusaders by a score of 195-93. The women's team fought to the end but were edged by a score of 134-166.
The men began the day with a win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay as
Austin Twiss,
Guillem Perez,
Jordan Rahurahu, and
Nick Adams clocked in at 1:39.26.
Chris Ford then dominated in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a first-place time of 10:15.16.
Jordan Rahurahu and
Brendan Finnegan went one-two in the 200 Yard Freestyle with Rahurahu finishing with a time of 1:48.68 and Finnegan finishing at 1:49.24. Rahurahu also placed second in the 200 Yard Individual Medley at 2:01.54 while Finnegan placed second in the 100 Yard Freestyle at 49.93.
Benjamin Kebbell (55.49),
Peter Gori (56.54), and
Thomas Willemse (57.42) took the top three spots in that order in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Gori also picked up a win in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:59.79 while
Patrick Boyle came in close behind for a second-place finish at 5:00.16.
Evan Fair finished first in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 1:01.19. Fair also came in first place in the 200 Yard Backstroke at 1:58.88 and the 100 Yard Butterfly at 53.38.
Austin Twiss took home a first-place finish at 1:59.71 in the 200 Yard Butterfly.
Guillem Perez (2:16.75) and
Chris Ford (2:17.84) placed in first and second respectively in the 200 Yard Breaststroke.
Ian Nelson also picked up a second-place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle at 22.68. The men finished the day with a win in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay as
Evan Fair,
Benjamin Kebbell,
Brendan Finnegan, and
Peter Gori clocked in at 3:18.05.
Samuel Tonole finished first in both the 3 Meter and 1 Meter Diving with score of 256.83 and 201.07 respectively.
On the women's side,
Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj,
Colleen Young,
Morgan Hansen, and
Maria Nitti started the day with a win in the 200 Yard Medley Relay at 1:50.88.
Shannon Feeley then placed first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle clocking in at 10:49.52.
Sara Ostensen and Feeley finished one-two in the 500 Yard Freestyle with Ostensen at 5:16.50 and Feeley at 5:19.88. Ostensen also placed second in the 200 Yard Butterfly at 2:10.56.
Colleen Young took home a first-place finish in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a final time of 1:09.74. Young also won the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 2:28.32.
Maria Nitti picked up a win in the 50 Yard Freestyle at 25.09.
Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj placed second in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:00.76 while
Samantha D'Alessandro finished second in the 100 Yard Freestyle at 54.98.
Morgan Hansen also placed second in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a final time of 59.27.
Erin Wind placed first in the 3 Meter Diving with a final score of 218.40 and she finished second in the 1 Meter Diving with a score of 197.77.
"Strong meet for both sides today" said Head Coach
Anthony Bruno. "These back-to-back competitions really prepare us for what's ahead at our mid-year and championship meets. We're looking forward to getting back at it tomorrow in what should be another exciting meet."
Fairfield will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, November 2 as they take on Providence College in Rhode Island starting at 11 A.M.
