EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer freshman
Brooke Jones was named both the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Co-Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week after leading the Stags with five points in a 2-0 week. Jones scored in both victories and dished out an assist against Saint Peter's, helping the Stags to their first 3-0 start in the conference in five years.
"We are proud that Brooke has been recognized for her play this week," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "She really put herself in good spots to be dangerous and her finish on Saturday was classy."
Jones' five points during the week led all MAAC players during this recent stretch. Jones started her week by coming off the bench to score a goal and tally an assist against Saint Peter's, contributing to two of the team's five scores.
In a tighter defensive matchup at Canisius, Jones netted the only goal of the game and tallied her second career game-winner. Jones also led the Stags with four shots in the contest, with a pair of those attempts on target.
For the season, Jones leads all Fairfield rookies in goals (three) and points (seven). Jones is the third Stag to earn a weekly honor from the conference this season, joining
Gena Pike (Defensive Player) and
Nicole Stryjek (Offensive Player) who won the honors on Sept. 9.
Jones shares her Co-Offensive Player of the Week award with Siena's Jayanna Monds who netted a goal and an assist during the week.
Jones and the Stags will return to action when they open up a season-long three game homestand, starting with a visit from in-state rival Quinnipiac on Wednesday night at 7pm.
