FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield women's swimming and diving started their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference slate with a win over Monmouth today at the RecPlex Pool, outscoring the Hawks 189-105. The men's team put up a strong performance but were edged by a score of 154.5-133.5.
The women started the day with a win in the 200 SC Meter Medley as
Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj,
Colleen Young,
Morgan Hansen and
Maria Nitti clocked in at 2:02.59.
Morgan Hansen took home two first place finishes starting with a victory in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly at 2:24.29 and clocked in at 1:06.00 to win the 100 SC Meter Butterfly.
Sara Ostensen also picked up a pair of wins in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle at 2:11.85 and in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle with a time of 4:38.68. Ostensen also finished in second in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle at 1:01.52.
Shannon Feeley finished in first in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle with a final time of 9:32.29. She also placed second in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle.
Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj placed first in the 200 SC Meter Backstroke with a time of 2:26.95 and placed second in the 100 SC Meter Backstroke (1:06.89).
Colleen Young finished in second twice on the day starting with the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke (1:16.72) and the 200 SC Meter Breaststroke (2:48.82).
Rachel Landry finished in second in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle (2:15.49) and in the 200 SC Meter Individual Medley (2:31.07).
Maria Nitti placed first in the 50 SC Meter Freestyle with a final time of 27.71 while
Samantha D'Alessandro and
Emily Holman finished in second and third place respectively.
Sarah Scelsa also picked up a second-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly.
On the men's side,
Austin Twiss,
Guillem Perez,
Evan Fair, and
Ian Nelson won the 200 SC Meter Medley Relay to start the meet with a final time of 1:47.74.
Patrick Boyle followed with a win in the 800 SC Meter Freestyle at 8:44.05.
Evan Fair picked up two wins on the day starting with a first-place finish in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly with a time of 2:10.61. He then won the 200 SC Meter Individual Medley at 2:10.21.
Jordan Rahurahu finished in second in the 200 SC Meter Butterfly at 2:13.64 and placed second in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle (4:13.97).
Brendan Finnegan placed second in the 200 SC Meter Freestyle (1:59.76) while
Guillem Perez finished second in the 100 SC Meter Breaststroke (1:06.94).
Peter Gori tied for second place with a time of 54.12 in the 100 SC Meter Freestyle and
Austin Twiss placed second in the 100 SC Meter Butterfly.

Jordan Rahurahu, and
Peter Gori finished in second in the 400 SC Meter Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:36.23.
Fairfield will return to action as they travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on Holy Cross on November 1 at 4 P.M.
