FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will travel to Loudonville, N.Y., to take on the Siena Saints on Saturday at 1pm. The Stags, already secure of a berth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) tournament, can secure the second seed with a win and a Rider loss to Monmouth.
The Stags are coming off their most decisive victory in five years as they tied a Lessing Field record by scoring eight goals in a 8-1 victory over Iona on Senior Night. In her final regular season home game,
Melanie Hingher recorded her first multi-goal game in finishing off corner kicks from
Gabby Diodati and
Brooke Hernon.
Nicole Stryjek led the squad with five points on two second half goals and an assist.
Liz Dumas and Diodati also got into the scoring column and
Allie Landino capped the historic performance with her first collegiate goal.
The eight goals tied the Lessing Field standard that was set on October 7, 2014 against Saint Peter's. With their scoring output, the Stags have also overtaken the conference's lead with 39 goals, a number that stands 13th in the country. Also with 102 total points, the Stags rank 26th in the NCAA.
With postseason awards coming out in a week, the Stags have several student-athletes ranked among the MAAC's best. Dumas and Stryjek have both tallied career-highs with seven goals, a number that ranks third in the conference.
Diodati leads the MAAC with seven assists, bringing her career number to 17 which ties her with Kara Burmaster '95 for seventh on the program's all-time list.
Hernon, who tallied two assists against Iona, ranks second in the MAAC with six helpers.
The Saints enter the season's final two game two points behind Niagara for the league's final playoff spot. Siena dropped a 3-0 decision on the road to the Purple Eagles their last time out.
Amber Alfonzo, Carrie Krohn, and Ashleigh Sarafin are all tied for the team lead with three goals apiece. Taylor Dorado has played in every minute in net this season and owns a 1.39 goals against average and a .784 save percentage.
The Stags will wrap up the 2019 regular season when they travel to league leading Monmouth on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7pm.
