Stags Travel to Rider on Sunday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will hit the road for the second time in four days when they travel to Lawrenceville, N.J., to take on the Rider Broncs on Sunday at 2pm. The contest will be a rematch of last year's MAAC Quarterfinals, after Rider defeated Fairfield during the conference tournament.

The Stags are coming off their first MAAC loss of the season, dropping their conference opener fell to the two-time reigning MAAC Champions Quinnipiac on the road, 81-36.

Fairfield led 13-10 after the first quarter, but would only score 23 the rest of the way. After Andrea Hernangomez cut the deficit to one point at 18-17 with 6:30 left in the second quarter, the Stags would not score again for the rest of the half. The Bobcats took advantage by posting a 19-0 run spanning into the third quarter. During that stretch, the Stags missed eight-straight shots with five turnovers.

Lou Lopez-Senechal tallied a team-high 12 points in the setback, bringing her total to 33 points during her first three career games. The 33 points is the most a Stag rookie in their first three games since Casey Smith also poured in 33 during the 2014-15 season.

Fairfield forward Khadidiatou Diouf will be entering play against Rider as the MAAC leader in field goal percentage at 47.3. Diouf is coming off a game against Quinnipiac where she attempted a season-low three shots, but converted on two of those attempts.

The Broncs will be playing in their first MAAC game of the season and their first contest since a loss to Georgetown on December 21.

As a team, Rider ranks third in the MAAC averaging 61.3 points per game. They have accomplished this by being very accurate from the field, shooting over 37 percent which is the second best number in the conference. Rider also ranks second in the league in turnovers per game and leads the MAAC with 3.8 blocks per contest.

Stella Johnson has to be at the top of every team's scouting report. Johnson enters play as the MAAC's leading scorer with 18.8 points per game, which also places her in the top-50 in the country. An all-around player, Johnson is second in the MAAC with 4.3 assists per game and leads the league with 3.6 steals.

The Stags will have a nearly a week off before they next take the court on the George Bisacca Court at Alumni Hall on Saturday, January 12 when they welcome Marist at 2pm.
